On his way to an astounding 13-0 record on the Russian regional circuit, Shamil Gasanov was forced to face off against some formidable opponents.
After establishing himself as one of the most highly-touted talents in Russia, ‘The Cobra’ made his debut in the promotional circuit a year ago. Gasanov’s debut outing inside the Circle was certainly a successful one, as he was able to defeat No. 2 rated featherweight contender Kim Jae Woong by first-round submission at ONE on Prime Video 3. The victory propelled Gasanov straight into the top five of the category and put him in position to potentially compete for the title with only one more significant victory.
Shamil Gasanov spoke with ONE Championship about his fantastic undefeated record and the stiff competition he has faced along the way before travelling to the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium for his second appearance under the ONE Championship banner. This fight will take place at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
“While playing in the ProFC league, I competed against athletes of varying skill levels, including some who were better than me. “The challenges I faced during the preparation for each fight were completely different from the others,” Gasanov explained.

Shamil Gasanov will compete against the greatest Jiu-Jitsu fighter in the world, Garry Tonon, inside of the Muay Thai Mecca. Both fighters will enter the bout with the goal of earning a crack at the featherweight championship if they win. “The Lion Killer” enters the fight with an impressive record of 7-1 within the Circle; the lone loss on that record came in March 2022 against Thanh Le, who was the featherweight champion at the time.
Since then, Garry Tonon has gotten back on his feet by forcing Johnny Nunez to submit in the first round of their fight at ONE Fight Night 5 back in January.
On July 14, Amazon Prime Video users in North America will be able to watch the whole ONE Fight Night 12 event live and without charge during primetime in the United States.
