Demetrious Johnson is confident in his assertion that he has become one of the most accomplished competitors in the annals of mixed martial arts thanks to the tireless effort he has put in over the course of his entire life.
At ONE Fight Night 10, which took place on May 5, ‘Mighty Mouse’ once again demonstrated why he is the sport’s unrivaled finest flyweight competitor in the annals of the sport’s history. As the reigning ONE Flyweight World Champion, Demetrious Johnson was charged with defending his championship against Adriano Moraes, the very same guy he defeated to win the title in the first place. The 1stBank Center was completely sold out for the event.
The confrontation between the two men lasted for a quarter of an hour. Johnson emerged victorious after everything was said and done, reclaiming his title and expanding his reputation in the process.
In a recent post on the Instagram account of ONE Championship, Johnson explained that while many of his buddies were engaging in various forms of hedonism, he was hitting the books, training every day, and spending time with the woman who would one day become his wife. These are the choices that ultimately lead him to where he is now.
My companions were constantly partying and using illegal substances. I was still the guy who was going to school, working, dating the woman who would eventually become my wife, and training in mixed martial arts… just hustling.” – Demetrious JohnsonIt has been said that “the grind never stops for the GOAT.” Who will play the next part in “Mighty Mouse?”
When it comes to the question of who will go next, “Mighty Mouse” has two possible choices waiting in the wings for him if and when he decides to return to the circle. The first and most obvious candidate is the number two contender in the flyweight division, Kairat Akhmetov. ‘The Kazakh’ cemented his position as the next contender for a shot at a ONE world title with a victory at ONE Fight Night 10, giving him a perfect record of six wins and zero losses.
The other option is a submission grappling superfight with Mikey Musumeci, who is currently the reigning world champion in the flyweight division of submission grappling for ONE. Both Demetrious Johnson and ‘Darth Rigatoni’ have voiced their desire to compete against one another in a grappling match inside the circle. It is also a distinct possibility that Johnson will step away from mixed martial arts for an extended period of time in order to compete at the highest level of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
