After being absent from the public eye for the previous four years, Sage Northcutt finally made his long-awaited comeback to the Circle at ONE Fight Night 10.
When he faced Ahmed Mujtaba on May 5th, he finally put a stop to the forced hiatus that he had been on due to injuries, surgery, and COVID-19. His break had been imposed upon him as a result of these events.
Sage made his comeback to the lightweight rankings with a magnificent heek hook in the first round, giving him a much-needed win under the banners of the Singapore-based organization. Sage made his comeback to the lightweight ranks.
He had a lot of time to consider this battle and get ready for his comeback until the proper day came around. Sage ‘Super’ made his return in front of a sold-out crowd at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, for the on-ground premiere event of ONE Championship in the United States, and the scene was set for him to put on a show.
Because Colorado is at a higher altitude than most other states, he had to think about how the change in altitude may impact his performance in the fight. This is because a significant shift in altitude might hinder an athlete’s ability to compete.
Sage Northcutt discussed how he dealt with this problem during his training camp and how it didn’t impact his training all that much in a conversation with Karyn Bryant on the Fistivities podcast. Northcutt said the following about his approach:
“I did some, but it wasn’t very much. I’ve heard of people going out there a month early in order to acclimate themselves to the altitude of Colorado. I was training with Urijah Faber and Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, which is not too far away from Lake Tahoe, and we were there for a while.
He added:
“So, I’d just like travel up to Tahoe, which is at an altitude of 6,000 to 7,000 feet, and I was just like challenging my cardiovascular system up there. despite the fact that I wasn’t planning on being there for several weeks. But I think that by the time I got to Colorado, after about a day, I was feeling quite fine.
