Deiveson Figueiredo suffered broken nose in UFC 283 fight against Brandon Moreno

Published:

In the UFC 283 co-main event this past weekend, Deiveson Figueiredo lost to Brandon Moreno for the second time in four fights. In front of his home fans in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian was defeated by TKO after three rounds following a doctor’s stoppage.

Through the first three frames, Moreno had the upper hand and finished the third with a stunning left hook. The full force of Moreno’s hook struck Figueiredo’s face, causing injuries to his eye and nose.

Deiveson Figueiredo‘s right eye was ultimately closed by that shot, eliminating him from the game and giving Moreno the championship once more. It has since been shown that Figueiredo broke his nose as a result of the impact of the strike, rather than the Brazilian’s eye, suffering the most damage.

His trainer described it as a “minor nose fracture” and verified the diagnosis to MMA Fighting. He stated:

Brandon Moreno speculates about his next opponent, names Alexandre Pantoja

After winning the co-main event of UFC 283, Moreno ran into fellow flyweight Alexandre Pantoja.

Pantoja made a case for a title opportunity and offered his congratulations to the Mexican during the unexpected encounter. In the press conference following the event, Moreno talked about the brief altercation.

The Assassin Baby reported:

To be completely honest, he was cordial with me right away. “Hey man, today I feel very glad for you,” he added as he accompanied me. Thanks for the belt, whatever it may be. It was all good at that moment. He then began to inquire, “Hey, when’s our fight?” 2 months from now? 3 months from now? Tell me immediately.

Insisting that the bout should not take place right away following his victory, Brandon Moreno refused to give in to Pantoja. He acknowledged that “The Cannibal” might be the next in line, though:

“I comprehend the current state of the line. I am positive that Pantoja should face off for the championship next. [Matheus] Nicolau and Manel Kape are both now producing fantastic work. Those three men, in my opinion, are the following. I don’t make the decisions in the end. Simply simply, I’m prepared to fight and will be ready to face anybody the UFC throws in front of me.
