WATCH: ‘Buchecha’ is looking strong and ready for a possible comeback to action

Published:

17-time Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida, the current world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, continues to look as sharp as ever as he prepares for his eventual return to the competition circle.

Almeida is widely regarded as the grappler who has had the greatest success competing in BJJ over the course of the sport’s history. In 2021, he successfully transitioned to mixed martial arts and immediately established himself as one of the most dangerous adversaries in the heavyweight class.

With victories over Anderson Silva, Kang Ji Won, Simon Carson, and Kirill Grishenko, ‘Buchecha’ was able to secure four first-round finishes in a span of time that was less than one calendar year.

At ONE Fight Night 13, Almeida faced his hardest test to date when he stepped into the circle to compete against the Senegalese standout Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane. Almeida was on the edge of a potential world title shot at the time.

Following three very wild rounds of competition, ‘Reug Reug’ emerged victorious, dealing ‘Buchecha’ his first loss of his career in mixed martial arts (MMA). Fight fans were given a glimpse into Almeida’s hard preparation as he prepares for his return to the ring. Almeida is determined to make a comeback that is even better than his previous one.

In addition to the post, Almeida penned the following:

“No matter how long it takes, no matter how far,” she said.

Marcus Almeida will, alas, have to wait a little longer before he may potentially face Anatoly Malykhin, who is the current ONE heavyweight world champion. This is because Marcus Almeida lost the fight. Despite this, “Sladkiy” continues to be convinced that their lives would eventually converge in some way or another.

“He’s an extremely skilled martial artist. In an interview with ONE Championship, Malykhin discussed Almeida’s loss by saying, “He’s a legend, and it’s not a big deal that he lost.” Malykhin was referring to Almeida’s status as a legendary fighter. “He just needs to pick himself up, get back in the gym, and work hard, and I believe that one day our fight will pack a stadium,” the trainer said. “It’s that simple.”
