Thanh Le gave some thought to his uncertainties after engaging in mixed martial arts competition for the first time at an older age than the majority of other high-level fighters.
In November of 2013, when Le was 28 years old, he made his debut in the professional MMA circuit. The majority of world champions start their careers at a younger age, but the Vietnamese-American who won the title took an unusual route to the top of the podium. Since then, he has gone on to compile a record of 13-3 across all competitions, including a run of 5-1 in the ONE Championship.
A Reddit Ask Me Anything session was held with the former ONE featherweight MMA world champion on Friday, October 6, before to the match. The following question was posed to Thanh Le by one of his fans:
“Your first mixed martial arts fight came in 2013, when you were 28 years old, which the vast majority of people would consider to be fairly late to start training in MMA. Because you got started in MMA so late and because you lost your first professional fight, did you ever have any reservations about becoming successful?
The following is what Thanh Le said in response:
“Yeah, without a question, I had my reservations… Once I had made up my mind to commit, though, there was no way anyone was going to challenge my choice. As soon as I made the decision, I had the unequivocal conviction that I was capable of performing at a level that would place me among the very best.

“Also, it WAS a pretty late start, but I had almost 25 years of experience in martial arts at the time… that experience has carried me through my career because Taekwondo taught me how to learn skills, how to train, how to get better at things quickly, and how to recognize when someone is good at what they do. “Also, it WAS a pretty late start, but I had almost 25 years of experience in martial arts at the time.” That put me in a position to learn from the most skilled professionals in the field, and I soaked up information like a sponge.

Thanh Le started his career fighting under the ONE Championship brand and won his first five fights by knockout, including two world title bouts. When he was defending his ONE featherweight MMA title against Tang Kai in August 2022, the Vietnamese-American suffered his first loss in a professional competition for the first time.
On October 6, during primetime in the United States, Le hopes to get back on track by recovering the ONE gold. In the main event of ONE Fight Night 15, the 38-year-old fighter will square off against Ilya Fremanov with the interim featherweight mixed martial arts world title on the line.
Freymanov, on the other hand, has a record of 2-0 since he joined ONE, and he intends to keep generating momentum by earning a portion of Tang’s crown.
