Dan Hardy, a former UFC championship challenger and analyst, lauded Daniel Cormier for his remarks during the Jessica Andrade and Lauren Murphy fight while Cormier was one of the commentary trio at UFC 283 this past weekend.
When Cormier yelled for the fight to be stopped, Hardy stumbled across a tweet from MMA journalist Marc Raimondi who wondered whether Cormier had “forgotten he was on commentary.” The following was said in “The Outlaw”:
Jessica Andrade completely outclassed her opponent throughout the fight, and ‘DC’ begged the referee to call it off from the commentary booth. Coworkers of Cormier agreed with him and thought there was no justification for the punishment to go on given the outcome.
However, the event that ‘The Outlaw’ was involved in during his UFC commentary career in 2020 is what inspired Dan Hardy to find humour at Daniel Cormier’s request. Hardy had an outburst of his own during the Francisco Trinaldo vs. Jai Herbert fight when he was commentating UFC Fight Night 174.
Trinaldo won the fight via TKO, however Hardy felt the stoppage came far too late and yelled for the fight to be stopped for a few seconds until Herb Dean intervened. After the fight, Dean met Hardy at the Englishman’s desk and ordered him to keep his opinions to himself.
Daniel Cormier believes Jamahal Hill could bring “stability” to light heavyweight division
Daniel Cormier thought back on Jamahal Hill’s best career effort, which helped him defeat Glover Teixeira to win the UFC light heavyweight championship at UFC 283.
‘DC’ thinks that ‘Sweet Dreams’ having the title might offer stability to the 205-pound division in a division that has seen championship turmoil. Since 2020, the division has already produced four champions, as Daniel Cormier noted:
“Jamahal Hill looks to be the right person. It’s encouraging to see a young man succeed after entering this battle ranked seventh. A fantastic performance that suggests he might be the one to give a weight class that has had four champions since 2020 some stability.”
Jiri Prochazka was supposed to defend his light heavyweight championship against Glover Teixeira at UFC 282, however he had to pull out of the fight because of a shoulder injury.
The new ruler of the 205-pound category has already received a message from the old champion, though. Prochazka posted on Twitter, saying:
