It is common knowledge that the Ruotolo brothers are considering making a career change into the world of mixed martial arts (MMA).
Kade, the current holder of the ONE lightweight submission grappling world championship, has intentions of competing in the multi-faceted sport by the end of 2023, although his twin brother Tye would prefer wait a little longer for a bit more experience.
In contrast to his brother, Tye has not yet been successful in winning the ONE Championship even though he holds the record for the youngest-ever IBJJF world champion.
Nevertheless, Tye Ruotolo is on an unstoppable rampage and recently submitted lightweight MMA contender Dagi Arslanaliev at ONE Fight Night 13, which took place this past week at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok.
During the interview that took place after the bout, Tye stated that he has no doubt that his brother will put on the four-ounce gloves before the end of the year. He continued by saying that he plans to remain active in the submission grappling scene for a little while longer and will be concentrating on his natural discipline:
“So it looks like Kade is going to pull it off this year, but as for me, I’m going to hold off for a little while longer.”
There is a more specific reason why the six-foot Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt would rather continue in submission grappling, despite the fact that Tye did not explain why he would rather wait his turn at mixed martial arts (MMA).
After dominating and ultimately submitting Arslanaliev in their bout, Tye earned the right to compete for the inaugural welterweight submission grappling world title offered by ONE Championship.
There have been no formal statements made concerning who Tye will face for the crown as of yet; however, he has already mentioned Izaak Michell and Pedro Marinho as possible opponents for the title fight.
If Tye is successful in claiming the inaugural global title, then he and his brother Kade will become the second set of siblings in the history of ONE Championship to hold the title of simultaneous world champions.
Angela Lee, who holds the title of ONE women’s atomweight world champion, and her younger brother Christian, who holds the titles of ONE lightweight and welterweight world champion, are the first pair of siblings to accomplish this accomplishment.
