The world of martial arts has undergone a profound transformation as a direct result of Takeru Segawa’s choice to ink a contract with ONE Championship.

Recently, the ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong appeared at a press conference alongside the Japanese superstar in order to formally announce the superstar’s agreement with the organisation.

Takeru provided the assembled media with an explanation of his decision to sign an exclusive contract with the promotion at the time of his presentation before the press.

Takeru made the following statement during the press conference in Tokyo:

“In terms of standing techniques (Tachi-waza), I had the impression that ONE was gathered together with all of the world’s strongest fighters,”
With a professional record of 41-3 (24 knockouts), the 31-year-old kickboxer is widely regarded as one of the best of his generation and possibly even of all time. He has won his last 24 fights by knockout.

Takeru is the only fighter in the history of the K-1 organisation to win world titles in three different weight classes. He has held the titles of super bantamweight, featherweight, and super featherweight world champion throughout his time with the organisation.

Takeru has not only won multiple world titles, but he has also triumphed at the K-1 Grand Prix on three separate occasions.

After signing with ONE Championship, the Shin Karate black belt will have access to an incredible number of potential opponents to choose from.

One of these bouts would be against Rodtang Jitmuangnon, the reigning world champion in the flyweight division of ONE Muay Thai. Jitmuangnon is the man who has been demanding a fight with Takeru even before the Japanese kickboxer joined with ONE Championship.

When it comes time for Takeru Segawa to make his ONE Championship debut, he has a number of formidable opponents to choose from, including ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9, ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Jonathan Haggerty, and the legendary Nong-O Hama.

Even though there has been no official announcement regarding when Takeru will make his debut in the Circle, just the possibility of him challenging for a ONE world title is enough to send goosebumps down the spine of a martial arts fan.
