Jonathan Haggerty’s explanation for moving up in weight class is that “I just felt so exhausted.”

Jonathan Haggerty demonstrated he is still among the best in the flyweight class by winning three straight fights after losing his ONE flyweight Muay Thai world title against Rodtang Jitmuangnon. The leader of the pack, Nong-O Hama, who is 10-0 inside the Circle, appears to be invincible. At ONE Fight Night 9 on Prime Video on April 21 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, Haggerty will face the legendary Thai fighter. The 26-year-old explained to ONE Championship what motivated his choice to abandon the flyweight division and begin over at bantamweight less than a week before the greatest bout of his life:

“I just felt so exhausted at 61 kilos [the 135-pound flyweight limit]. In between rounds, getting up off the stool was a struggle, but now that we’re hydrated, we feel stronger, and I’m simply eating a lot more, too.Haggerty’s first fight in his new weight class was against the strong Vladimir Kuzmin at ONE on Prime Video 4 in 2017.

The English boxer defeated his Russian opponent in three rounds despite being noticeably bigger than what fans are accustomed to seeing.

Haggerty also no longer had to worry about losing weight, so his blows undoubtedly had greater force.

This extra energy ought to be useful this Friday while facing the tough Nong-O.

For current Amazon Prime Video subscribers in the US and Canada, ONE Fight Night 9: Nong-O vs. Haggerty on Prime Video will be free to watch live on US Primetime.
